Punjab Government Launches its Health Survey Report 2017 at Lahore

Punjab Minister for Planning & Development Malik Nadeem Kamran has appraised the efforts of health department for the improvements in key indicators through effective interventions and showed resolve of the Punjab Government to continue its efforts for uplifting service delivery in future as well.

He was addressing the Report Launching Ceremony of Punjab Health Survey-II, 2017 organized by the Bureau of Statistics, P&D Department at Lahore.

P&D Minister Nadeem Kamran expressed his gratitude towards the efforts made by the Bureau of Statistics Punjab in executing the survey successfully and appreciated the team of Punjab Health Survey for their excellent work.

Planning & Development Department was consistently working on improved systems for generation of accurate information on development needs and impacts of the investment made through development budget. Government took a key initiative of Punjab Health Reforms Roadmap and introduced various interventions for improvement of service delivery in health sector. Therefore, for tracking the progress towards SDGs in health sector, Bureau of Statistics Punjab with the support of TRF+ has undertaken 2nd round of Punjab Health Survey in the Province. The report of Punjab Health Survey (PHS)-II, 2017 would be highly useful for evidence based planning, particularly on the eve of up-coming budget for the year 2018-19.

Chairman P&D Board Muhamamd Jahanzeb Khan, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of the PHS-II. He congratulated and also appreciated the Bureau of Statistics (BOS) Punjab for making untiring efforts for successful completion of the said task.

At the launching ceremony detailed presentations were made. First, by Ch. Sajid Rasul, Director BOS Punjab on survey methodology, characteristics, history and use of data in evidence based planning & interventions aimed at the improvements of the lives of the citizens. Second, by Dr. Shabana Haider, Member (HNP), P&D Board, who shared key results on immunization, skilled birth attendance, breast feeding and other important indicators relating to the health of mother and child. She said; a majority of indicators had reflected varying degree of improvement at provincial as well as district levels and that the findings of the current survey will enable the Health Department to focus on unimproved areas and to take practical actions to keep all healthy. Director General Health Services, Punjab, in his remarks appreciated the efforts of BOS for conducting the survey and showed pleasure over the improvement in indicators. Dr. Shabnam Sarfaraz, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Punjab Public Health Agency (PPHA) gave a presentation on key findings and way forward to further enhance the performance of health sector. Souvenirs were presented to distinguished guests and the Bureau’s Team Members, who worked on the assignment. High level Govt. functionaries, members of civil society, academia, NGO’s, Media and other stakeholders also attended the ceremony.
